The revolving head of Franz Kafka by David Černý has undergone a general reconstruction. It is now back in regular operation.

The reconstruction of the moving statue of Franz Kafka's head, located near Prague's Národní Avenue, has been successfully completed. On Thursday, 29 February at 7 pm, the statue was inaugurated into regular operation.

The moving head of Franz Kafka is one of the most sought-after public artworks in Prague.

The head of the famous writer Franz Kafka is located in front of the Quadrio shopping centre, where it was unveiled on 31 October 2014. At the turn of 2023 and 2024, the sculpture underwent a necessary service and all forty-two rotating stainless steel floors were reconstructed. It is a unique work of art combining modern mechanical technology and traditional Czech craftsmanship. The existing construction uses a solution known from industrial automation and robotization - inside the sculpture there are 42 actuators and almost a kilometer of cables. Interestingly, the stainless steel panels rotate independently of each other, allowing passers-by to admire the face of the famous writer in a variety of grimaces.

The eleven-metre-high sculpture is a 21st-century technical marvel of Prague. 42 moving floors form the face of the famous Czech writer Franz Kafka. The sculpture by artist David Černý stands near the Quadrio shopping centre and combines art with modern technology and the traditional "golden hands" of Czech craftsmen. Watch Proměna, wait for the right constellation of all the floors and discover Kafka!
