Kafka lives on

We bring Franz Kafka's ideas into the present - right in the heart of Prague, on the Quadrio shopping centre piazza. David Černý's Turning Head has become an iconic piece of modern Prague.

But only now is it becoming a living part of the space that surrounds it. Beneath its layers, Kafka in Motion is being born - a place in the centre of the big city that brings together restaurants, cafes, shopping, interactive technology, art and experiences.

Quadrio is thus transformed into a place where Kafka is not only remembered, but where his legacy truly lives on. Exhibitions, augmented reality, thematic installations, competitions, audio tours and pop-up events - all come together under one roof.

Kafka žije dál
Kafka4 Gallery

A new space dedicated to Kafka's legacy has been created at the Quadrio Food Level - an exhibition space in motion. Themes and authors will change in line with the idea of Kafka in motion. You will also find the Kafka Library.

Directions to Kafka4 gallery

Kafka gallery is part of the Quadria shopping centre, which is open every weekday from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm and on weekends from 8:00 am to 11:00 pm.

The gallery is located at the back of the first floor (Food level), which is reached by escalators, and offers, among other things, a unique view of Kafka's head.

Kafka4 - 4 Illustrations by 4 Czech illustrators

Young Czech illustrators have created a work inspired by selected novels by Franz Kafka. We approached Barbora Žižková, Jakub Bachorík, Lenka Samešová (aka @m.milenka) and Jan Vajda to interpret America, The Trial, The Change and The Castle in their own way.

Their task was to present Kafka's novels from their personal perspective and to project their own view and way of thinking about them into the final work. The result is a visually powerful collection that reflects how Kafka's work is perceived by the younger generation. The illustrations connect the past with the present and give Kafka's stories a new dimension - right in the Quadrio space.

A short introduction to the authors and their works of art:

Jan Vajda

Castle

Jan Vajda, known under the pseudonym Antimultivitamin, is a Czech illustrator specializing in digital art. His style is colourful, detailed and often spiced with subtle humour. He draws inspiration from absurdity and symbolism, which he projects into his visual language. The illustrations for Castle were created under the influence of the vivid atmosphere and timelessness of the author's world. He has shifted the story of the work into the future, underlining its universality and openness to interpretation.

Jakub Bachorík

Process

Jakub Bachorík is an illustrator and musician from Prostějov. He graduated from the Studio of Illustration and Graphic Design at UMPRUM, where he now teaches. He works with book illustration, posters, comics and free work. His world is full of sci-fi, motorsport, technology and strange narratives. The inspiration for the illustration of The Process was the helplessness and chaos of bureaucracy, which Kafka masterfully described. The result is an endless labyrinth from which there is no escape.

Lenka Samešová

Transformation

Lenka Samešová studied film and television production, but established herself professionally as an illustrator under the brand The Samesh. She illustrates books, magazines, designs visual identities and does 3D printing with her own humour. She is the founder of Tired Moms Club, inspired by her parenting. In her illustrations for Promenade, she works with alternative motifs, and discovers subtle, kind details: a sister with a violin, a portrait of Kafka, or a key as a symbol of hope. Kafka fascinates her not only as an author, but also as a man full of humour, empathy and inner transformation.

Barbora Žižková

America

Barbora Srp Žižková is an illustrator focusing on travel writing. She draws inspiration from her travels around the world. She spent a year in Japan, exhibited in Tokyo, Mexico and Prague. She illustrates travelogues, cultural guides, magazines and board games. Kafka's world fascinates her with its imagery, darkness and empathy for human fragility. His characters wander through absurd situations full of anxiety, questions and hopelessness. America has opened the illustrator up to her own interpretations and stories with new endings - perhaps less dark ones. Or not?
